Stage 2 involves the establishment of a dedicated facility for the YMCA’s community-oriented initiatives. This space will house a versatile black-box theatre, a preschool, areas for health and well-being programs, educational resources for young individuals, dance and movement studios, as well as various support services, such as a general medical practice and physiotherapy. These activities will take place within a fully operational environment.
The design concept aims to create a new focal point for the YMCA along Rolleston Avenue, directly opposite the Christchurch Botanic Gardens. This will be achieved by activating a central courtyard between Hotel Give and the new building, effectively forming a central hub within the broader YMCA redevelopment.
Ultimately, this building will serve as a cross-cultural and cross-generational community hub, bringing vibrancy to the heart of Ōtautahi Christchurch.
